Frequently Asked Questions
How do I ensure my child is recognized as a homeschool student?
Visit our Homeschool Information page.
Do you offer scholarships?
At this time, we do not have any scholarships. However, we will soon be building a scholarship fund.
How does lunch work?
All students must bring a packed lunch and water bottle to school each day. Please let us know about any allergies.
Will there be recess?
Yes! For 6th grade and below, we have outdoor and indoor recess spaces. (Donations of outdoor toys and indoor games are always appreciated.)
Do you work with IEPs?
We do not have the resources to implement IEPs and will not accept students with IEPs. As a homeschool co-op, the education of the child is the ultimate responsibility of the parents. While we have many resources that provide an excellent learning and teaching environment for students and teachers, The Compass Academy has limited resources and capabilities to support students in situations where those students are multiple grade levels behind and need the resources of an IEP. We’d love to discuss your child’s specific needs. Please contact us!
Will my gifted child be challenged?
Our teachers are experienced in teaching kids with a range of abilities. Your child will be taught and challenged at his or her level. We would love to speak with you about your child’s specific needs. Please contact us!
Will you use technology?
We introduce technology at the elementary level in a center-work setting and Accelerated Reading school initiatives. In our elementary and middle school program, we have a shared number of devices, and we will use technology in small groups for curriculum support and enrichment.
In our 7-12 program, each student will have a device.
Will you have specials?
In our elementary and middle school programs, we include music and art.
What responsibility do the parents have for the students meeting homeschool standards?
Please read the Homeschool notification instructions and parent responsibility on our Homeschool Information page.
Will there be homework?
Our education model requires students to complete an estimated 3-4 hours per week of at-home learning. You should expect some homework and ensure that homework time is built into your family’s schedule.
Can my child still play sports and do other activities through the public school district?
By law, students can participate in any school district activities that do not earn a grade. This includes sports and other extracurricular activities. This is managed through your home school district and their rules and regulations apply.
What are the class sizes?
We aim for 20 students in a class. We do reserve the right to add students if we believe it is justified to do so.
